Your Mediation Information and
Assessment Meeting (MIAM):
Helping you gain clarity on how to move forwards in separation and divorce.
MIAMs and Court Forms
To make a court application regarding parenting, finances, or property matters, or to start mediation, attending a MIAM is normally necessary. In a MIAM you can discuss your situation with a Mediator and explore options for mediation.
Subject to a few specific exceptions, if you wish to take your case to court for a C100 Child Arrangements Order, or a Form A (Notice of intention to proceed with a financial application), you will need to find a mediator and attend a MIAM first.*
Booking a MIAM with Adept Mediation
We provide affordable, fast, tailored to you MIAMs. We even offer a service providing urgent MIAMs within 24 hours of booking if you need one quickly (subject to Mediator availability). We will guide you every step of the way and if you require a signed C100 MIAM form or a signed Form A for a court application, that's included in the cost of the MIAM.

What Does a MIAM Involve?
A MIAM is an informal confidential meeting with a Mediator to discuss your situation and for you to get key information about mediation and other dispute resolution processes.
The Mediator will meet with you one-on-one via Zoom (online) or in person.
The MIAM is your opportunity to talk about the issues you’d like to resolve and to get a sense of whether mediation could work for you.
The Mediator will listen to you, answer your questions, give you information, and assess whether mediation would be suitable in your case.
If your former partner attends a MIAM, they will have a separate MIAM with the Mediator.
It is standard practice for the Mediator to notify your former partner that you have attended a MIAM and to invite them to schedule their own session. If you have any reservations or concerns about this, we can discuss it at your MIAM.

After the MIAM:
Mediation is a voluntary process. Once you find a mediator and attend a MIAM, it is up to each client as to whether they would like to proceed with mediation, and up to the Mediator to assess whether mediation would be appropriate.
Mediation
If both parties would like to take part in mediation, and the Mediator agrees your case is suitable, you can arrange your first joint session with the Mediator (see https://www.adeptmediation.com/family-mediation for more on this).
Going to Court
If you wish to make an application to the family court, either instead of mediation or alongside mediation, a Mediator can sign the MIAM certificate to satisfy the court that you have attended a MIAM and considered mediation.
*Exemptions to the rule of attending a family Mediation Information and Assessment Meeting (MIAM) before issuing an application to the family court mostly apply where:
You have attended a MIAM in the past four months
There has been domestic abuse
There are child protection concerns
There is a sense of urgency
