Family Mediation Tailored to You:

Guiding you through separation and divorce in a compassionate, structured, and
non-judgemental environment.

What is Family Mediation?

Family mediation is a process to help people resolve issues presented through separation and divorce. It is generally a much faster and cheaper process than going through the courts, and enables clients to make their own decisions, rather than a judge deciding for them.

Splitting up is a stressful time and many people find it difficult to communicate with each other about next steps. A mediator is an impartial third party who works to help people reach agreements, without taking sides, in a confidential and voluntary process.

Clients often need help finding agreement on topics such as:

  • When children will spend time with each parent

  • Where the children will live

  • Where the parents will live and what will happen to the family home

  • Finances (assets, debts, and for married couples - pensions)

  • Child maintenance

  • How parents will communicate with each other

  • Other issues that are specific to the family’s situation, e.g. school holidays, pets, spousal maintenance, family owned businesses

Tailored to you
We tailor our service based on our clients' needs, to help them work through difficult issues that they cannot resolve on their own.

Adept Mediation is committed to providing services to a high professional standard for all our clients. Our mediator Clare Hayes Guymer is a member of the College of Mediators and is registered with the Family Mediation Council and the Civil Mediation Council. Clare trained with National Family Mediation (NFM), the London School of Mediation, and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb).

Family mediation usually takes between 4 to 6 joint mediation sessions. However, the number of sessions can vary depending on the complexity of the clients' situation (such as finances and whether or not they have children).

The process begins with separate individual meetings between the mediator and each client (arranged for different times). This is called a Mediation Information and Assessment Meeting (MIAM).

What we Offer

Introductory appointment (MIAM): £120 per person
Informal conversation one-on-one with the mediator, 45 minutes

Mediation sessions: £130 per person per hour
Joint sessions between the mediator and clients, 90 minutes

Preparation of documents*
If a settlement is reached, the mediator can prepare documents outlining what the clients have agreed in mediation. Clients can share these documents with their solicitors to draft legally binding agreements and Consent Orders:

- Parenting Plan: £120 per person
- Open Financial Statement (OFS): £150 per person
- Memorandum of Understanding (MoU): £170 per person

*These are fixed fees per person per document. If your circumstances are very complex or you have a higher than usual amount of financial documentation, and we anticipate that longer preparation time will be needed, we will let you know an adjusted fee in advance.

Parties Sign Agreement to Mediate
Before we can begin mediation, we require parties to sign the Agreement to Mediate, where the parties and mediator agree to keep mediation discussions confidential.
