Community Mediation Tailored to You:
Guiding you through dispute resolution in a compassionate, structured, and
non-judgemental environment.
What is Community Mediation?
Community mediation is a process to help people resolve disputes which they have been unable to resolve themselves.
We work in the community with neighbours, landlords and tenants, local groups, and charities. Our approach is to create a safe space for parties to discuss their experiences and resolve their issues.
Having an ongoing dispute with a neighbour, member of a community group you attend, or other local person that you see often can be very stressful. A mediator is an impartial third party who works to help people reach agreements, without taking sides, in a confidential and voluntary process.
Mediation is generally a much faster and cheaper process than negotiating through lawyers and going through the courts, and enables clients to make their own decisions, rather than a judge deciding for them.
People in the community often need help finding agreement on topics such as:
Boundary issues, including disputes over fences, walls, and hedges
Shared access and right of way
Parking issues
Noise disturbances
Anti-social behaviour
Use of CCTV
Landlord - tenant disputes, e.g. over withheld rent payments, property repairs, and damages
Shared use of resources, e.g by local community groups
Workplace issues within charities
Conflicts within local groups

What we Offer
Free 10-minute call
We'd be happy to talk about the issues you need to resolve and to discuss how we may be able to assist. This call is not compulsory but is available in case helpful to learn more about the mediation process.
Mediation Sessions
During mediation, the mediator may move between meeting with both parties in joint sessions (as appropriate), to meeting with one party at a time in a caucus (private meeting). The mediator may also practice shuttle mediation, conveying messages and proposals which she has been authorised to disclose to the other party
Any resolutions agreed by the parties will be recorded in a summary - this can be drafted into a legally binding agreement by a solicitor at a later stage if required.
Note: the mediator's role is to facilitate the negotiation and resolution of a dispute, not to create legally enforceable documents.
Parties Sign Agreement to Mediate
Before we can begin mediation, we require all parties to sign the Agreement to Mediate, where the parties and mediator agree to keep mediation discussions confidential.
We take part in the Civil Mediation Council (CMC)'s Fixed Fee Scheme, offering a highly cost-effective mediation option for parties with a total claim of £50,000 or less (see table below).
If the total claim is over £50,000 please get in touch with us to discuss fees and suggested mediation duration for your case.
If your dispute does not have a monetary value, please get in touch with us to find out how many hours we would advise you to book for mediation, depending on the particulars of your dispute.
Note, to calculate the total claim value (if any), combine the value of the primary claim and any counterclaim. Other costs such as interest and legal costs are usually taken into account also.
If the mediation is held in person, any venue hire, travel, refreshments and other associated costs are payable by the parties.
The CMC Fixed Fee Scheme will not be appropriate in all cases, and we reserve the right to decide whether we feel it is appropriate in complex cases.
Please note, we are not associated with the Small Claims Mediation Service (SCMS) and are not a court appointed mediator. If your claim is for less than £10,000, proceedings have already commenced, and a claim form issued (which will come at a cost), you may be able to receive a free 1 hour telephone mediation through the courts.
